Rainy weather did not dampen the spirits and fundraising efforts of those who participated in CKO Kickboxing’s push-up challenge for JAR of Hope, a non-profit raising funds and awareness for those fighting Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.
The challenge’s baseline was to raise $10 per every 10 push-ups toward a larger, more collective goal — to raise $5,000 for the JAR of Hope, which will qualify CKO Franklin’s owner/head trainer/instructor Darlene Pallay to run the New York Marathon on Nov. 3 with JAR of Hope’s founder, James Raffone.
According to the Muscular Dystrophy Association’s website, Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy is one of nine types of Muscular Dystrophy, which typically impacts boys — and in rare cases girls — manifesting between the ages of 3 to 5 years. Pallay said she met Raffone at a CKO convention that many franchisees participate in once yearly.
