Katherine Bushby, MD, FRCP

Katherine Bushby (retired) has a long-standing interest in inherited neuromuscular diseases, especially Duchenne muscular dystrophy and the molecular genetics of the limb-girdle muscular dystrophies and related disorders. She also led the development, dissemination and implementation of care guidelines as well as clinical trials.

Along with Volker Straub, Katherine Bushby was one of the founding co-ordinators of the TREAT-NMD Network of Excellence. She was Impact work package leader in RD Connect and International PI on the NIH funded international study of steroid use in DMD and the Jain foundation study of clinical outcome measures in dysferlinopathy as well as an investigator in several industry sponsored clinical trials in DMD.

Although officially retiring, Katie plans to stay involved in key aspects of the John Walton Muscular Dystrophy Research Centre via an honorary position as Professor Emerita at Newcastle University. Before her retirement, she served as professor of neuromuscular genetics at Newcastle University and as a coordinator of ERN EURO-NMD.
