Dr. Mena Scavina is a healthcare provider at the Department of Pediatrics, Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children.

Dr. Mena is specialized in the diagnosis and treatment of muscular dystrophy. Her area of research is focused on a variety of movement disorders, as well as surgical techniques and other ways to treat and manage musculoskeletal diseases. She also holds a patent related to genetic testing for spinal muscular atrophy.

Dr. Scavina received her Osteopathic Medicine degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. She completed her medical internship from the Mountainside Hospital and Kennedy Health Systems and residency in Neurology at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. She also did MDA Research Fellowship at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and neuromuscular fellowship from Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children.

During her training, she helped run a muscular dystrophy association clinic and learned how to treat children with a variety of complex disease processes early on. After that experience, she felt compelled to go into pediatrics.
