Dr Michela Guglieri is a research fellow and honorary consultant with the Institute of Genetic Medicine at Newcastle University, England.

Together with six leading Duchenne charities, she was awarded a fellowship by Newcastle University and Newcastle University Teaching hospital in partnership to develop and advance the clinical trial agenda for Duchenne. The award of £250,000 over five years is being matched by Newcastle University to enable Dr Guglieri to develop the clinical trial capacity for Duchenne at the John Walton Muscular Dystrophy Research Centre and nationally.

She has been involved in different researches, from natural history studies to more or less advanced stages of clinical trials with interventional drugs. She was also closely involved in the research into biomarkers and outcome measures for DMD, to enable to measure disease progression and response to new interventional drugs across ages, from the age of 2 into the age of 20’s and 30’s.
