The Duchenne Multidisciplinary Clinic at the University of Michigan is a multidisciplinary clinic with the goal of providing the best care possible for individuals with Duchenne/Becker muscular dystrophies. The care it delivers encompasses the multifaceted needs of this community. Distinguishing characteristics of the clinic are proactive communication and the comprehensive management of each patient’s care.
The multidisciplinary clinic allows patients to be seen annually by several specialists at once, eliminating the need for multiple appointments and allowing the different specialists to coordinate care. The clinic provides treatment and therapy recommendations, orthotic design, breathing evaluation, on-site echocardiograms (ultrasound of the heart), genetic counseling, and wheelchair adjustments for patients with Duchenne and Becker muscular dystrophies.
